Torn-Def:Disrupted by the pull of contrary forces.

Post by comb_ridge »

Hi All,
Started off with Debian distro's a fair bit ago and ended up migrating back to that with Devuan (Debian - SystemD). This was after a long use of Salix, with Slackware thrown in for giggles in between. When Salix was feeling, well a little stale, even though it worked well; it was actually the lack of updates to program I frequently use (IE:LibreOffice) and for compatibility with, yes, MS Office . So then the hunt was on for something without SystemD; hence Devuan.
Since we are basically a Linux house hold (wife hates Windows) it takes a bit of time to get all the computers on the "same" page.
Salix is currently running in Virtual-box on a Windows computer (which is a PITA to dual boot, HP Workstation ZBook X2) for a test run and so far so good except for some Virtual-box issues which has nothing to do with Salix.
Always had a KISS principle in mind (even more so as I get older) and Slackware/Salix scratched the itch for MANY years. Debian did that until the SystemD thingy. I still don't understand that whole thing; except maybe it was from "RedHat". Big Whoo, marketing, marketing and more propaganda.
Anyway, winter coming on here in SW Colorado and maybe have a little more time here and there to test a few things out..
Just wanted to say a thank you to the team and all those behind the scenes (maintainers, etc); and so far so good. Your diligence is appreciated.
Have a few older laptops that I could install on and see how it goes; don't anticipate any problems.
Thanks- - John C

ps: my old login didn't want to work so I just made a new one. It had been probably more years than I think last time I logged in.

Hi John! Welcome back!

Here's a tip: if you really want to run the latest version, remove the libreoffice package, and install the flatpak: https://flathub.org/apps/org.libreoffice.LibreOffice

or just

Code: Select all

flatpak install flathub org.libreoffice.LibreOffice
Then just run

Code: Select all

flatpak update
every now and then.
