New registrations/Users with zero posts
Re: New registrations/Users with zero posts
Well, I just temporarily disabled user registration on the forums. We've been having a lot of attempts of spamming the forums during the last week on a daily basis. Fortunately, I don't think any spam message actually went through. But I've been deleting bot accounts in bulk every day and I'd like a break from that. We'll keep it like that for a couple of days, hoping that the bots will give up and then we'll reopen registrations.
Re: New registrations/Users with zero posts
I just enabled user registration in the forums again. Let's see how that goes.
Re: New registrations/Users with zero posts
Hello everyone! How long has it been since there were no new members in this forum?
Here is one (me).
I installed Salix in November 2023, but I haven't used it much for various reasons.
We are still in version 15.0, am I right?
My goal is to get to know all the main branches of Linux, but I often start from the derivatives because they are easier.
The Debian branch is certainly the simplest, but only recently I installed the authentic one, I usually use Bunsenlabs.
However, I have always avoided Ubuntu, too popular for my tastes.
From the Arch branch I tried Manjaro, now I use ArchBang, this is my favorite branch.
I tried openSUSE but I think I will never try it again.
I use Void in the GNU version but it makes little sense, one day I will try the musl version.
From the Red Hat branch I tried to install Rocky but it did not fit my machine, too old.
I am not trying Gentoo for now.
I've been interested in Slackware for a while now, so I chose Salix as my first attempt.
I've had problems with the Internet, but I can handle it.
I always install Openbox and I did it in this case too, honestly I don't like Xfce at all.
There's something that really bothers me at the moment regarding the shell, but I'll open a discussion about that soon.
At least I think so.

Re: New registrations/Users with zero posts
Hi Scendix! Welcome! It seems it has been two days after the last user registration.
Yes. But there have been some developments. You can look here: viewtopic.php?t=8806
I'm sure you will find this is largely untrue. Try to answer some of these questions in simple terms:
1. How do you create a new package in Debian? Consider the simple case of some software package that includes a single library and a single executable that uses that library.
2. What does it take to submit this package in the repositories?
3. How do you update a package with a newer version of it that you built yourself without conflicting with everything else.
4. How does the packaging database work? How do you fix it if it breaks?
5. How do you create a local repository that you use for your own packages? How does that repository work?
6. How does the init system work?
7. How does the alternatives system work?
These are only some examples I just came up with. Debian might be a fine distribution, but it certainly is not simple.
Feel free to make new forum posts for any issues you have.
