when using the salix codec isntaller from the multimedia menu, it starts downloading the packages and then complains that couldn't download all the packages, checking /usr/share/salix-codecs-installer/pkglist to see which package was creating the error and I found that slapt-get complained that the package libmpcdec doesn't exist.
the funny thing is that that package is already installed
EDIT: forgot to tell that I was running salix current

Re: salix-codec-installer problem
It seems the codec list needs to be updated for current.
For the moment, remove libmpcdec from /usr/share/salix-codecs-installer/pkglist

What really matters is where you are going, not where you come from.

Re: salix-codec-installer problem in salix-current
I noticed that today an upgrade of salix-codec-installer was available and after upgrading and trying the menu entry it worked ok, no errors whatsoever, so I'll mark this as solved
thanks!
