gslapt package manager

Well this is happening consistently on my newly installed 64 bit current (from bata iso). I found that I get the same freezes if i do a "gslapt --upgrade" in a terminal. Clicking on the "OK" button in the "Apply the following changes" dialog box result in the same frozen window. Eventually i get the following error in the terminal

gslapt: Fatal IO error 0 (Success) on X server :0.0.

You mean you get it every time you launch gslapt --upgrade?

Do you have the same issue, if you launch gslapt, choose the "select all upgrades" option from the menu and then hit the apply button?

Well, It was, but it worked fine on the last two auto updates that I receive after posting my "consistently happening" post. I'll keep an eye on it and report back it the problem reoccurs.

Well, it happen again last night on my 64 13.1 alpha install, but I think may have narrowed it down. Last night I got the update notification and click on it. After gslapt came up I checked to see what was to be updated (claws-mail & salixtools) then upgraded. gslapt froze at this point and I had to close it down via the "window busy" message box.

Do you only get this problem when launching from the tray icon, or also when you launch gslapt from the menu and then click the "mark all upgrades" button? Also, is that a 13.0 or current (13.1alpha) installation we're talking about?

I now can answer this. gslapt freezes no matter how I launch it, but only if I don't do a update before upgrading. Last night after getting the freeze, I tried launching gslap from the menu. After confirming that both claw-mail and salixtools were marked for upgrade, I click on "execute" and got the frozen window. I repeated this several time and got the same results, either launching from the command line or the menu. Finally I got it to work after updating first before upgrading.
So, my conclusion is that I'm getting bad downloads during the automatic salix updated.
I going to install 13.1 beta this weekend and will keep an eye on this.

Is a slapt-get -u before running gslapt --upgrade enough? I could make the salix-update-notifier to force an update before upgrading. The whole process will take a bit longer, but if it means it always works, it would be preferable.

New salix-update-notifier-0.4-noarch-1gv.txz package in the repos. It updates the package cache before running gslapt --upgrade so hopefully it fixes this problem.

If this happens again to anyone, please do the following:

slapt-get --clean
tar cvzf var-log-packages.tar.gz /var/log/packages
tar cvzf var-slapt-get.tar.gz /var/slapt-get

and upload them somewhere.
also try to run gslapt with:

gdb /usr/sbin/gslapt

and post any output.

Actually, try to reproduce this without the notifier, run gslapt --upgrade straight from terminal. Maybe downgrade a package to the version in 13.0 to have some packages that need upgrading.

Also, make a note about how many packages are to be upgraded each time this happens.

Gapan, sorry I haven't got back to you on this. I crashed my system that was displaying this behavior the other day while trying to update the motherboard bios (big mistake). I have spent the last few days trying to recover from a bois checksum error. Although I managed to get a working bios into it,there still seems to be problems with booting Salix 32. Once (If) I get it working again, I'll try to get you some info on the problem

Good news, I've got my system back up and running. Thank God for the Internet, Google and some guy named Miguel! I still have the slapt-get freeze problem. This problem has persisted through three installation of Salix now. I don't reformat my /home and i use the same user, but I don't think there any configuration files associated with slapt-get in my home directory. I get the problem without using the notifier tool.
