Dunno what to suggest

Post by Windtalker »

I've been running Slack since Slack 12 came out.
I was happy with 12.2.
13 wasn't my cup of tea so stuck with 12.2.
Still have it on another hd but can't figure out why FF keeps crashing on shut down.
I tried 13.1 kde.
Nah.
Was running Gnome until I wasn't paying attention ad did slackpkg upgrade instead of update.
Oops.
Wasn't overly joyed with it anyway and had already had the cd for Salix burned anyway.
I like it as well as I do 12.2 with kde.
A bit better perhaps because it's faster.
The only problem I experienced was with hplip.
I have an hp deskjet F4140 printer/scanner.
In the 13.1 kde as well as Gnome, I set the p/s up with zero problems.
With the hplip from I'm assuming the Salix repo I couldn't.
I ended up going to sourceforge, downloading it from there and installing it manually.
Ouilla!
As soon as it was operational though, some auto update thingy asked me to update some new packages and it was hplip and something else.
Foomatic maybe?
It was already almost done when I caught it.
I assume the p/s still works.
Won't know until I try it.
Dunno what the diff is because I assumed hplip is the same in Slackbuilds as it is here.
I guess hplip could be a suggestion.
I also saw prboom.
Cool.
If it's a game others enjoy, maybe someone would be interested in packaging Vavoom which plays the old Doom 1, Doom 2, Hexen , Heretic and Strife wads,
I always install it and there is only one dependency I have to find outside a slack repo.
[Some are in Slackbuilds, some are in Slacky.]
I think it was sdl-mixer.
Anyway, if anyone is interested in packaging it, I have a list of the depends.
It isn't a challenge to install as is if whoever understands cmake.
Kudo's on whoevers brainchild Salix is.
I'm well impressed.
