Lightspark
Lightspark is a modern, free, open-source flash player implementation.

Gnash
Gnash is a free software player for swf files.

I used Gnash & Swfdec on Ubuntu 8.10.
Shouldn't be a Gnash package for SalixOS 32-bit?

Re: Swfdec, Lightspark and Gnash (swf, macromedia, adobe)
Swfdec-mozilla plugin won't work right now, the stable release is too old and is incompatible with Flash 10 used today.
I haven't heard of the lightspark project, have you tried it out?
And the day I tried Gnash, it crashed. Don't know about its current status.
Boy, how I hate Adobe's flash player. What a big, fat CPU hogger and browser-crasher. I hope HTML5 will someday wipe this software monstrosity out of this world.

I used it for local (not as a plugin) .swf game files etc. for my little sister.lmello wrote:Swfdec-mozilla plugin won't work right now, the stable release is too old and is incompatible with Flash 10 used today.
No, I haven't.lmello wrote:I haven't heard of the lightspark project, have you tried it out?

Ah, Gnash is already in the x86_64 repo. There's also a wrapper for the flash-plugin. Grab the SLKBUILD and build it... it'll take some time, though.

Maybe take a look into this nice article about alternatives to Adobe.

You are free to keep them all errors for your own. Linux is the best game I ever played.
Re: Swfdec, Lightspark and Gnash (swf, macromedia, adobe)
lightspark has a LOT of dependencies including xulrunner and pulseaudio. I am not at all thrilled about adding pulseaudio so I gave up on building it.

Why does it need xulrunner, though?
Edit: I've been asked to ask a more reasonable question and not the question above
examples:
what is the answer to that: why does salix use the linux
try to answer seriously
or to that: why does lxde use the x window server?
I meant to: Why this project is making use of xulrunner, couldn't they choose another library(ies)?
I just wondered why, no need to answer.

Because the devs are free to chose the libs they know or they want to use. If you don't like their decision move on and use something else or code something else by yourself
Re: Swfdec, Lightspark and Gnash (swf, macromedia, adobe)
Lightspark, as it seem, is mainly aimed to GNU/Linux X11 desktop users (not Window$) and in that case it'll be very interesting to know what are the benefits of such decision of using xul.thenktor wrote:Because the devs are free to chose the libs they know or they want to use. Ask the devs then. Nobody can answer it here
