What are the settings in "Remmina" should indicate that I can connect to itself?

Thenktor,

I asked exactly the same questions you are asking a while ago. I used TightVNC with success, but found it sluggish. Further, it requires some set-up on both ends....host and server. An IT friend suggested LogMeIn Free Version (Google it) and I really liked it. Problem is that while it can be used from Linux to Windows and Linux to Mac, it doesn't work in the reverse (you can't remotely access an X session). So I searched for a Linux alternative and found Teamviewer (in the Salix repo). I didn't want to use it because it uses Wine, which seemed like an ugly un-Linuxy solution, hence the following SOLVED thread in which you, Shador and Gapan helped me to successfully VNC thru SSH :

In the end, however, I went with Teamviewer and I have to say, it's great. I can remote desktop very smoothly from any OS to any OS, I can do file transfers in either direction, and it is so easy to install that if you want to control a remote friend or relative's desktop for a session it will be quite easy for them to get it running following your simple instructions.

Just my humble opinion based on experience with various remote desktop solutions. Good luck. ;)
