djemos,

If I knew your address I would come by and kiss you (male or female)! I have been baffled by a similar problem on my MSI Wind U200 which also uses the RT2860STA module. I couldn't understand why it had worked in the past (using a different distribution) yet stopped working with later kernels.

Oh what a joy it is to again be able to connect to my wireless access point in my home. It makes such a difference to be able to roam instead of being stuck in the one room.

Again - thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!

Edit: (Iforgot to mention exactly what method I used to solve the problem).

I followed the instructions above to blacklist all the specified kernel modules. I then rebooted my PC, logged in and clicked on the wicd icon in the system tray. wicd scanned for wireless networks and discovered my home's wireless access point. I clicked on the [Connect] button for that wireless network and was told that it had encryption enabled. I then entered the WPA2 pre-shared key and when I again clicked on [Connect] wicd connected successfully.

blacklist.conf make the change, but the laptop still freezes T_T

the last time you install the card, instead of applying all the patches, just apply the patch for the. config driver installation.

no longer do, thanks in advance
