Code: Select all

# rpm2tgz -d -n epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.i486.rpm
and maybe http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic. ... =10#p17136.
For scanning I recommend the programme to "XSane".

I just worked up the nerve to try this on a new Salix OS LXDE 13.37 install on my netbook. Here is the output I got:

Code: Select all

No symbolic links were found, so we won't make an installation script.
You can make your own later in ./install/doinst.sh and rebuild the
package if you like.

This next step is optional - you can set the directories in your package
to some sane permissions. If any of the directories in your package have
special permissions, then DO NOT reset them here!

Would you like to reset all directory permissions to 755 (drwxr-xr-x) and
directory ownerships to root.root ([y]es, [n]o)? n

Slackware package /home/user/Downloads/epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-i486-1lsb3.2.tgz created.
Should this package be set to install in /opt on a Salix OS system or /usr/share ???

There were also about fifteen instances of an error at the start of the process that look like this:

Code: Select all

# rpm2tgz -d -n epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.i486.rpm

I haven't installed anything yet, as I am unsure whether the files will be installed in their correct places for Salix OS. I am not even sure that the output of the command

Code: Select all

# rpm2tgz -d -n epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.i486.rpm
was satisfactory.
gapan wrote:It might work, it might not. It might destroy your system, or not... You need to have at least a basic understanding of packaging and your system as a whole, so you can examine the package you created, check if there is anything in there that might break anything.
Unfortunately, I don't have enough insight into this process, to determine what will happen to the system, but I am trying to learn...

Try to build a package using the script SlackBuild (epson-inkjet-printer-stylus-tx550w-series.tar.gz). I have got to do it.
This requires two files: "epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.i486.rpm" and "epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.src.rpm".
Install the package "rpm" and "rpm2tgz" from Gslapt.
1. Place them in the same folder with the script SlackBuild.
2. Rename the "epson-inkjet-printer-stylus-tx550w-series.SlackBuild" in the "epson-inkjet-printer-nx420.SlackBuild".
3. Edit "epson-inkjet-printer-nx420.SlackBuild". In the line "PRGNAM=epson-inkjet-printer-stylus-tx550w-series" replace with "PRGNAM=epson-inkjet-printer-nx420".
4. Run the script and get ready package in the /tmp.

I get the following error when I run the script:

Code: Select all

# ./epson-inkjet-printer-nx420.SlackBuild
./epson-inkjet-printer-nx420.SlackBuild: line 48: rpm2cpio: command not found
cpio: premature end of archive
Any ideas? I can't find an rpm2cpio package anywhere in slapt-get or sourcery

Install the package "rpm" from Gslapt.

Uhmm... since there is a slackbuild available, you can just install that with sourcery or slapt-src.

There's another SlackBuild, not for this package.

Ah, sorry, I didn't notice.
