I always use the driver from the Nvidia homepage as it overwrites it's old version anyway. It cannot get simplier than running a shell script 
I tried the method described here http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic. ... a&start=10, on my Slackware64-13.37 installation and got a "Fail"

Not that I'm complaining. Nouveau works.
