Yes, but that's true only from a higher level and certain parts of distributions. If you digg deep enough in the abstractions of modern software, they're almost no differences. That's what I've generally found. However, you might get in trouble by blindly following instructions like a recipe. So I suppose I was just adding a caveat: use judiciously.
