Did you use X on these servers?
BTW: Install the kernel-source package with slapt-get before installing the nvdia driver from nvidia.com

thenktor: thanks for the reply. Yes, I had X on both servers.

good news!: I solved the problem with the mouse by going into xorg.conf and 'input device section' and uncommenting 'Option Protocol Auto'. It fixed my problem.
