You may try
http://slackware.uk/slint/x86_64/slint- ... 1slint.txz from the Slint repo. It includes most locales.
EDIT. But wait!
mozilla-thunderbird-45.5.1-x86_64-1_slack14.2 comes from a Slackware repo, not a Salix repo.
These packages are hosted by Salix only to store the corresponding dependencies so that they can be considered while using slapt-get or gslapt or spi.

I did the following:
Inside Thunderbird, Preferences menu -> Spelling -> "Download Dictionaries" link
In the next page (Add-ons), search for Dictionaries and Language Packs.
Download and install them as add-ons (automatic)
It's working now for me
