Not that it has any bearing on this problem, but I'm pretty impressed with how cool and quiet this system runs. I just built it Wednesday, then lost air conditioning Saturday night during the Phoenix heatwave. Temps in the house were over 100F all day yesterday, but according to "sensors" my system was running at 86F. Don't know what exactly sensors is measuring, but 86 degree anything sounds good under those conditions. With only one case exhaust fan plus the heatsink and P/S fans, air blowing out the back of the box is actually cool.

Thanks for the lspci post.
Looks pretty standard type components.
Today I added the AR8162 NIC Cat5 module.
This is not a usual module and must be compiled. So, I will watch to if this creates any problems.

OK Lock up after adding AR8162 module..
Keeping in mind that the module is compiled with kernel source for this version that was a surprise.
On the same machine the Inspiron 14z there are installs with the same module of Debian (Squeeze, Jessie, Sid), Gentoo (Calculate, Sabayon) and Bridge/Arch.. none of which display any lock up symptons.
The Salix/Slackware 14 x64 install ran for over a week without the module and without incident.
I will contact the alx module's developer for feedback.

Another Update: Salix 14 x64 ..Inspiron 14z
July 2 Considered recompiling the AR8162 module alx.. with a different version of the same.
Also noted that during all lockups with the x64 install that I had locked up as I was running the RANDOM Xscreensaver
Began a non stop UpTime from 8pm Jul 2 to 2am Jul 3rd with Single Screen Xscreensaver.
No LockUPs.
July 3 10:30am to 2pm with Single ScreenSaver
No Lockups..
Running apps: FireFox, Conky, Htop, Leafpad, Zim, Thunar
Now I am crossing my fingers
I rather have a incompatible mode in Xscreensaver then an incompatibility concerning my NIC module..
Looking Good!!

July 3 5:30pm: No LockUps
Well I may have stumbled onto something here.
Xscreensaver 5.15 in Screen Saver Random mode is locking up by my testing results.
The Inspiron 14z has run uninterrupted Today for almost 7 hours without a Lock Up.
Yesterday uninterrupted 7 hrs.
I will continue to test and report but apparently not the NIC module.

July 5: The Salix 14 x64 Xfce install on my Inspiron 14z
Has been running about
6 hours Today with
No LockUps
Today I installed the Samba Sharing as per our User Documentation Wiki.
All works fine.
Seems without the Xscreensaver running in Random Saver mode all seems to be stable.
Had some Updates on July 3...
Updates since Jun 20 install are

July 5: Same Machine and Install...
Except, I am now running with the 3.2.45 Kernel update.
I noted a warning as it installed, declaring known Lockups with the Intel Video Chips.
I have a i915 Intel video in both my Laptops the Inspiron 14z and the Lenovo sl410
We will see what we will see..

July 11 Lockups Eliminated
I will have to close this thread as Solved.
Seems by eliminating the Random Screen Saver option for Xscreensaver that the problem has gone away.
I don't see Lockups anymore on either the Thinkpad sl410 nor the Inspiron 14z.
I have tested 64bit and 32bit installs Xfce4.
