kmix 4.10.5 is working fine here. It is not broken. It is now a kde package and not included on multimedia package. Something else is going on with your installation since kde has a lot of changes in its packages from 4.8.5 to 4.10.5 version.

maybe I need to refresh kde's settings folder?
It said kdeserver cant start kmix
