It could be a bug with libburn, which xfburn uses, and your hardware. Remove xfburn, libburn libisoburn and libisofs from your system and try with brasero.

Yes, I've read that

But I cannot imagine an app freezing the whole system

So if it's not the hardware I'd try another kernel. Perhaps libburn calls some kernel function that causes the freeze.

brasero locks the system also down...

Which kernel one? I use the standard Salix (Slackware) kernel....
EDIT: I think it is a broken feature to open the tray after finish of burning. Dunno how to disable that.

Did you remove the libburn packages? If you didn't, brasero will use them too.

Removed libburn, xfburn was removed also, automaically (dependency). Then marked brasero for installation, libburn was remarked automatically. Removd the install flag from libburn and installed only brasero.
Works now great!
But I replaced also my cdrom drive. Maybe there was a hardware conflict with the burner? Dunno.

No, it is still does not work

Brasero can't burn .ISO images to CDs but it is able to do that task with DVDs, I'm going to meet few people tomorrow so I made five copies of
ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386.iso and I've wasted so far five DVDs (4GB each) for a ~690MB image file.
thenktor,
caitlyn and
SalmonEater are right!, K3B is the best GUI Disc burner for X11

(and is the most user-friendly, with cute sounds)
Xfburn (which was great on Ubuntu 8.10) and Brasero are failing with CDs (arrgggghhh!!)
This is my error log from Brasero:
brasero-session.log

I burnt an iso on a CD using brasero the previous week. It has worked no problem.

I've burnt a data project, (all mp3 - "audio book") to listen while being in my car, on a CD-RW and no problem occurred, the information on the CD-RW is fine, but I'm helpless with CD-R, even for data burning.
BTW, is this a bug?
Bug #438494 in brasero (Ubuntu): “Brasero reports blank CD's free space incorrectly.” or it should display the rest of the free-space that is available in the disc? (I see the same thing).
