If your system is running ok, there is really no need to upgrade. If you do want to, take a careful look at the wiki page with instructions. It's straightforward enough really, but it's also easy to get into a muddle if you're new to it. So your caution is sensible.

Salix will continue to support 14.1 as long as Slackware does, that is, for the foreseeable future. We are not Ubuntu.

I have a question about the update process. I got everything installed and removed per the wiki article. But I am lost at the step where it simply says;

After upgrading the packages, don't forget to edit your /etc/lilo.conf file accordingly and run

"edit accordingly" is a rather vague instruction. I have no idea what I am supposed to do with the lilo.conf file. Mine looks like it just defines screen resolution and sets the splash screen. I see that it says to append kernel options. But I have no idea what I might need to append or how to do so properly.

If you have a line in there that reads:

image = /boot/vmlinuz

and /boot/vmlinuz points to your actual new kernel

ls -l /boot/vmlinuz

then all you have to do is update lilo

lilo -v

The only apparent issue is that my mouse buttons are no longer mapped properly. I'll have to revisit the thread where I learned to fix it the first time and hope I can repeat what I did.
