Just remove the ones you have and install the 4 packages from the slint repo. Don't forget to update your lilo/grub.

My problem turned worse.
I'm writing these lines with the help of a live disk, because after some manipulation (I can't remember what I exactly did) the system was broken and the warning "kernel panic" arose.

I'm afraid that I'm obliged to reinstall the entire Salix.

Any idea?

More precisely: Could I install the Slint kernel instead of the original when reinstalling?

Ah, I should have probably added more details on what "Don't forget to update your lilo/grub" meant. That's why you're getting a kernel panic.

To answer your last question, yes! This is not widely known, but you can replace packages on the iso! You can open the iso with isomaster, delete all the kernel-* packages from the kernel/ and core/ directories and just drop the new packages in their place. Save the iso as a new file and then you should be able to boot into the installer, which will install the upgraded kernel.

I've tried to change the content of /kernel in the salix_15.iso for to the content in the slint. It does not go.

In the salix.iso, there are these directories:
/kernel
huge.s
bzImage
config
system.map.gz

In the slint one, there is no kernel directory, but it has
/boot
grub
font
i386.efi
i386-pc
locale
rooms x86_64.efi
grub-cfg

Then, it is not surprising that the iso does not run by changing the kernel files.

No, not the kernels directory. The kernel and core directories that are inside the salix directory. That is where you will find the packages. Delete them from the iso and then put the packages from slint in their place. You don't have to use the slint iso. Just download the packages from the slint repo and put them in the iso with isomaster.

Sorry, but it's not going well.

Just after trying the language, it freezes and it is not possible to move forward.

In the salix64-xfce-15.0.iso there are these directories:

Code: Select all

salix64-xfce-15.0.iso
	EFI
	isolinux
	kernels
	salix
		aaa
		basic
		core
		efi
		efi-gui
		full
		kernels
			kernel-6.12.37-x86_64-1slint.dep
			kernel-6.12.37-x86_64-1slint.md5
			kernel-6.12.37-x86_64-1slint.meta
			kernel-firmware-20250708_99d64b4-noarch-1slint.dep
			kernel-firmware-20250708_99d64b4-noarch-1slint.md5
			kernel-firmware-20250708_99d64b4-noarch-1slint.meta
		sttings

What am I doing wrong?

At what point exactly does it freeze? You say "Just after trying the language". Is that right at the grub menu when you select the language to boot the installer? Or is it when you're trying out the keyboard, after the installer starts?

It is when I'm trying out the keyboard after the installer starts.

What if you don't try the keyboard and get to the next dialog?
