But I tend to be uneasy with any kind of easy 'name' bashing.

It's not name bashing. It's just the fact that we do things in a completly different way than Ubuntu and even Debian does. And I love the Slackware/Salix way and don't like the Debian/Ubuntu way. That's the reason I don't want to be compared to Ubuntu.

I do agree with you, but perhaps the original question would be better put as this: "do you think Salix is to Slackware what Ubuntu is to Debian?"

Actually, I think Salix's "user-friendliness" and GUI configuration tools are good enough to describe it as an "Ubuntu that works."

I think autogestion is trying to say that SalixOS makes Slackware easier for mere mortals instead of just l33t g33ks .

VectorLInux fits the bill more that SalixOS does. It has a GUI installer (not just on the live CD) and does more to make the experience newbie friendly. Of course, they don't have a 64-bit build yet and SalixOS does.

I don't see any comparrison between the 2 slackware, is based on a solid core that has stood the test of time and legendary stability. ubuntu is based on a unstable core and alpha/beta software, All Salix has done is take the grandaddy of Linux and given him some nice tools and a new coat. the old dog just lost his way thats all.
