So far as I can tell everything is working as it should, even my Intel chip/GPU seems to like it. I have it installed on my ASUS 1005-PEB netbook.

EDIT: I did just notice that when I uninstall a application and then tell Fluxbox to do a reconfig and restart the application is still listed in the Fluxbox menu. I just tested the Flash integration on both YouTube and Hulu and aside from some hesitation at the start of the clips, it works great. I think that it is more of a matter of the crappy wifi signal that I am working with here than with Salix.

Asheguy when you install or remove same applications you must edit the menu by hand.
Fluxbox dosen't create the menu in automatic as kde or xfce. There is a tool that generate an automatic menu but i don't like. The tool is fluxbox-generate_menu if you want to try it first you have to create a backup of the menu file (~/.fluxbox/menu).
In the next release we update flush-player.

Thank you for your report (by me and ax)

Will this edition be available in 64-bit? Additionally, is there an approximate release date?

@Kerd

I don't like that app either but I think that Linux Mint Fluxbox has a static menu generator I will look into it and get back to you.

@mexicore
Yes, soon will be available the 64bit version.
There is no exact date yet, but I think that will be released shortly.

Just tested salix-fluxbox iso on my eeepc 900.

This is really light - about 50 MB RAM on start! :shock:

It could be something I did wrong (I have no idea what?), but wicd icon did not appear in the panel, same goes to parcellite - I had to manually enable them in .fluxbox .startup file (or similar name). After that all went well.

Had also some problems while installation - error with one of the xorg drivers and also opeoffice.

A part from that, system is cool but the menu issue should be sorted out before release :)

This is a great starting point for other spins - or personal customizing - since pekwm works perfectly above new salix-flux :D

Oh, one more thing - at the moment there is no power-manager... or I couldn't find one, also no way to suspend to Ram with a gui ;)

Hi,
I'm presently posting from AntiX base (fluxboxed) and did some trials to see what happens to the menu and the results are mixed.

Installed and uninstalled blender: after the installation and the uninstallation, menu triggers updated the
fluxbox menu.

Correction on:
"Installed Chrome: nothing was added to the menu. Notice that Chrome was installed from an non Debian repository."

The launcher was also included in an obscure submenu inside the netork cathegories. Meaning: AntiX does have triggers to update the menu which works in every installation and uninstallation.

@klanger
wicd-gtk and parcellite are in ~/.fluxbox/startup their are enable in the FULL version.
We test the ISO on many pcs but we were never given any error in installation. We will do other tests.
What is the problem with the menu?

@meanpt
thanks, as soon as I have time I will try AntiX for see how it works.

I registered for these forums specifically to say nice job on the Fluxbox edition! I am always looking for new Fluxbox distros to try. I've given Slackware a try, but this is my first experience with Salix. If I have any questions/comments/suggestions after using it for a few days, I'll be sure to check back and share.

ps I also use Mint Fluxbox and can tell you they have a custom app called mint-fm2 to generate an auto-updating menu that reminds me of the LXDE menu. Might be worth taking a look as it's available through launchpad.

I am used to non-auto-updating menus from years of fluxbox/openbox, but I know they can be a turn-off for some new fluxbox users.
