Thanks Rich. If you can be a bit patient and not upgrade these packages until we get to the bottom of it.

The patched slapt-get package fixed my problem. :D I switched between the new and old packages several times and was able to reproduce the freezing with the old package, but not with the new one. Thanks to mallloc and gapan for solving this problem for me.
