Sound has gone again, and now sync won't help (if it ever did). The filesystem has a clean bill of health. alsamixer gives this error (it never stopped giving it, even while sound was working):

Code: Select all

root[tim]# alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_mixer_load failed: Invalid argument
I have tried alsaconf which goes through the right motions but doesn't help.

My next step according to Shador's instructions is to reinstall all apps, but I might as well just reinstall Salix really; and then I can take the opportunity to either fix or reinstall Windows itself. But before I do that, is there anything else anyone would like to suggest?

It isn't a hardware problem apparently, because sound still works in Windows.

You can try reinstalling alsa-lib and alsa-utils.

Confirmed! BTW: It is possible to force mount the ntfs volume, but I would not recommend it.
