It is possible that an even newer kernel could have solved the open source drivers issue. Try compiling one, it really isn't that hard. There is a howto in the wiki.

Do I understand correctly that you have found a way to have everything working?
Yes, i'm aware it's a somewhat specific problem of this machine (on crunchbang i found one guy who had the same machine with the same identical issues and who managed to solve - but he never turned back to explain "en detail").

And yes. The working setup is: kernel 3.14 plus the latest fglrx (omega) driver from amd. Using this lilo append line:

Code: Select all

append="quiet vt.default_utf8=1 rootfstype=ext4 nomodeset resume=/dev/sda3"
Now, there is only a smaller issue in the bootup with a timeout while waiting for a response of the spamd daemon. Cfr http://forum.salixos.org/viewtopic.php? ... 889#p36889. When i boot with the radeon driver, it seems to run over or to not have/create this timeout though ... (And also an issue with clamav, but that's for sure a somehow "crippled" setup due to my missing slackware knowledge).
