Hi,
After reinstalling gnsu, my update notifier started working fine. Yesterday there were couple of updates and when I clicked the system tray icon for the update notifier, gksu/gnsu prompt popped up and updates were installed successfully after typing my root password.
I have marked this thread as SOLVED.
