Music CD blocked system

To put an end to that thread...

I bought a new DVD-ROM-drive, SATA, and removed the Initio adapter and both CD-drives, the writer and the reader drive.
I now have sound, even without the cable to the soundcard (there is even no plug for it), and had no lock up so far.
As curiosity, one of the music CDs I used for testing is obviously not 100% error free, as the new drive cannot handle it, but the rest.
However, this CD runs well under XP and W2K...

Try ripping it with rubyripper or it's big brother EAC (via wine). Maybe that helps, or just reburn the CD with Win.

Well,

Windows MediaPlayer rips it to MP3! No problem.
But cannot be read under Salix (at least not with my hardware).

I bet the reason it's not read is some crappy copy protection. And I also bet that this "audio" CD doesn't have the CD-Audio graphic anywhere on it: http://www.mr-dt.com/graphics/cdsymbols/cd.jpg

sorry, but it does bear the Compact Disc logo.

There might be some kind of copy protection, but...

Its the addon to the book with same name and contains the sample tracks to learn and compare...

This CD has no copy protection. I'm 99% sure heise.de had a database for these "Un-CDs" but it seems to be down.

Well,

the old CD drives could at least recognise the number of tracks and their length, but not the titles.

The new DVD-ROM drive doesnot see anything...

So I think it is also hardware related.
