Weird start up

Hey guys, totally diggin this os, but theres a few problems.
One, that annoying bios check. I find it sorta kinds useless, and wanna know how to get rid of it. Also, when it starts writing out what its doing during the boot, the first 2-3 lines are mounting something, that result in an error.
That too is tickin me off, as it seems to slow down my boot. As you can tell, i want this baby to boot up as fast as possible, so if you could aid in that, i would be very grate full. Many thanks

While that did fix the issue, salix seems to boot slower, and it still does the bios check.
Maybe its just me, but it does seem slower.

no problem experienced on my laptop with the compact added to lilo
--to thread starter lba32 also helps on larger hard drives
also ubuntu switched to plymouth as it is faster than other splash programs would plymouth benefit us or is it only faster as the developers put more effort in to the boot side?
i to get the errors on boot but so far (fingers crossed) it hasn't really affected my system

The compact does show errors, but, i dont think it stops the computer from working. Mine shows a few errors, and i did add lba32 to the lilo config, after comact (assuming thats where it goes), but still a slow boot up.
I'm thinking of reformatting, and reinstalling using BASIC, but everytime i finish up, it never gives me the option to add a regular user, so the screen loads but i have to user to log in with. Couldn't figure out how to drop myself into the terminal to add a user, but, in any case, once i do figure it out, i think that'll help a whole lot during boot time

Could you give us your specific error messages?

From memory, (l am more familiar with the live installer) adding a regular user during the standard iso install procedure is supposed to happen right after choosing your root password. When you see the menu called User Account management, choose: 1-Create a new account.

How does the compact option go with RAID or LVM settings? But AFAIK both are not supported in salix, you have then to know what you are doing.

A user on linuxquestions.org wrote:
From the lilo.conf man page:

compact
Tries to merge read requests for adjacent sectors into a single read request. This drastically reduces load time and keeps the map file smaller. Using `compact' is especially recommended when booting using a map file on a floppy disk.
The reason it wasn't turned on is (according to a comment, probably by Pat, in my lilo.conf) that it doesn't work with some systems. I'm assuming these are ancient systems or systems with hardware peculiarities (aka manufacturing/design defects). It's probably fine to turn it on now on these systems even, maybe bugs have been worked out.
I wonder why grub and other boot loaders don't ask the same question- maybe their way of loading is different, or they just assume the optimisation will work.
Anyway, I did a test on my (non-raid) machine with compact off, and it did noticeably slow down the boot, although not as significantly as it did with yours. Probably particular hardware, kernels, map files, raiding makes the effect of the option greater or lesser too.

Check your BIOS settings!

Heres something interesting, a freshly burned iso gives a problem with one of the dev-arch packages (which i think is the reason my "create a new account" does not open), and the errrors are or less gone once i played around with the bios.
I burned another fresh cd, and i still get the same error. But when i do a FULL install, the error seems to disappear.
