Hello,

i just downloaded the test version of Salix Live 13.1. Burned it into CD and all works then booting from cd.
Now i formatted a usb stick with fat32 and copied the content of the cd to the usb stick. then i tried to execute the bootinst.sh but i get an error:
Flushing filesystem buffers, this may take a while...
Setting up MBR on /dev/sdb...
./bootinst.sh: line 53: ./boot/syslinux/lilo: No such file or directory
root[boot]#

so that is wrong with this method.

Should i use something like unetbootin??

Sorry we should have remove bootinst.sh as it is obsolete.

Other bugs discovered in this first test release:
* install-on-usb.sh doesn't work (which is supposed to replace bootinst.sh)
* keyboardsetup doesn't work
* CD-ROM does not eject

So if you are familiar with unetbootin, this might be your best bet at the moment.

Or the good old manual way with syslinux:
1- Copy the content of salixlive 13.1 to your usb key (except boot.catalog)
2- Get the syslinux directory from salixlive 13.0 or 13.0.1 boot directory & copy it in your usb boot directory
3- Get the vesamenu.c32 file from salixlive 13.0 or 13.0.1 boot directory & copy it in your usb boot directory
4- Edit your usb key /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg file
5- In a terminal execute: syslinux -f /path/to/your/usb/key

You can simply leave it as it is if you are an English speaker. (Anyways, you could always change it later if you wish to fine tune your boot menu &/or add remove some cheatcodes.)

The rest of the instructions are pretty simple. Try them & you should have a booting stick in no time. ;)

Or if you wait a couple hours, I'm putting the last touches on LiveClone & will be posting it soon for testing.

Liveclone is a graphical utility that simplifies the creation of a Live CD or Live USB, out of a vanilla (or customized) SalixLive session.

What about "these errors"?

Have now been working for two weeks with this test iso but as far nothing shows this is a test iso. It is almost perfect....

I understand the utility to install it on an usb-stick is not working. What I did was : install grub on a usb stick and then afterwards install the 'salixlive' directory plus also vmlinuz/initrd.

Have to say that upto now everything went smoothly.

Will there soon be a RC 1 or definitive version? Any changes?

Regards

I just corrected the install-on-USB scripts (both Unix and Windows). I'm working on the two other little bugs.
A beta (or RC1) will probably be availabled tomorrow night (I need to integrate some Akuna's improvements on some software : salix-live-installer, liveclone).

Good to hear that it's working good for you ikke :)
