VirtualBox mouse pointer (Slackware current)

Post by damNageHack »

I have recently installed Slackware current from the ISO of August 3th with KDE 4.4 into a VirtualBox.

How does it come that mouse pointer integration works out of the box? Could that be adopted to Salix?

Perhaps they have included the VB kernel module? I don't know if anything else is needed to get this working. But if Slack has it we will have it in our next release, too ;)

Nope, there is no vbox kernel module loaded. Maybe some logic of KDE?
Mouse and keyboard are both detected via USB ...

At least, also kernel source which setup was able to install for me right initially.

8-)
Sometimes, the guest additions are updated too with a new major VirtualBox release and so they need to be reinstalled to the guest. That would mean that there has to be a new slackware package for each update to vbox, I can not imagine that intention due to it is contra slackware philosophy.

I start to like KDE4

It's nothing related to an OS. It's in VirtualBox latest versions : universal pointer, checked by default. So you can move the pointer out of the VirtualBox window without having the Guest Addition Installed. In fact the mouse pointer use an absolute reference instead of relative to the window.

Yeah. JRD is right. VirtualBox' mouse pointer works also with Salix 13.1.1. 8-)
