Building in a Slackware box

Post by lmello »

So, what's needed to build Salix-ready packages from within Slackware? I have many build scripts at slackbuilds.org and would like to share them as Salix slkbuilds, but my Salix box is way too slow to compile big, complex software

I always liked writing my own SlackBuilds for Slackware in the past but slkbuilds are a hell of a lot easier to maintain.

Just download the slkbuild package from the Salix repo and install it, that should be enough. In fact, you could install the slapt-get package as well and have the entire repo at your finger tips. ;)

Nothing. :D

Slackware packages are salix packages.

I meant what tools are necessary to build a package from a SLKBUILD, check dependencies and all.

If you're going to use SLKBUILD files, you need the slkbuild package. Also the depfinder package to calculate dependencies.

So, another question:

Can I submit only the SLKBUILD and the .dep file in the forums, and let somebody else 'adopt' those files, for a possible inclusion in the Salix repositories later?

You can post them in the "contributed packages" section.
