Broadcom BCM57788 not working on 13.1.1

Post by wayne »

hi greeting,
i tried Salix 13.1.1 on intel i3 CPU with broadcom BCM57788 gigabit network adapter, the problem is there is no network connection.
from other tries, it seems kernel 2.6.32-21 worked well, as below.
i3@i3-desktop ~ $ uname -r
2.6.32-21-generic
i3@i3-desktop ~ $

could anyone help me with a work around?

Google shows many similar problems with broadcom network adapters in many distributions. One of them is this: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=525966

One comment in that bug report reads:
In the meantime, you can make the 57780 usable by unloading the tg3 driver,
modprobing the broadcom.ko module, and then reloading the tg3 driver.
Maybe it also applies to yours.

BTW, more information would be welcome, instead of just "it doesn't work", which doesn't really mean anything. Output of lspci, ifconfig, dmesg for example...

Re: Broadcom BCM57788 not working on 13.1.1

Post by gapan »

A search for "BCM57788 slackware" in google, yields this page as first result:
http://boorhunt.wordpress.com/2010/07/2 ... ware-13-1/

So try putting this in /etc/rc.d/rc.local:

Code: Select all

modprobe -r tg3
modprobe broadcom
modprobe tg3
(which is exactly what my previous post suggested you do)
