JRD as prepared another test release called Beta2 if we consider that the previous test release was the unofficial Beta1 release:
http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1082
Since last version:
-New versions of LiveClone and Live Installer
-Startup Guide not longer part of the CD, now the current state is available via internet and a desktop icon
-Ejecting the CD after usage is fixed
-New grub background with some change in menu selection focus (tell us what you think, this is not final, just an experimentation...)
-Packages update

Thank you for providing this Beta2.
It seems there is an essential difference between this Salix Live XFCE 13.1 Beta2 and its predecessor Salix Live XFCE 13.1 test.
When I install on an ext4 formatted usb stick and boot with grub this XFCE 13.1 Beta2 refuses to boot : kernel panic because of ext2 problems.
Any explanation? Or advice??
Thank you.

I'll try to reproduce this. How exactly did you perform your installation?

Thank you for kind reaction.
So Salix Live XFCE 13.1 Beta2 directory '/zenlive' copied on an ext4 formatted usb stick and booted with grub.
My grub entry :
Code: Select all
title salixlive-13_1.iso XFCE test LiveCD from (hd0,0)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /xfce_salix/vmlinuz from=/dev/sdc1 max_loop=255 ramdisk_size=6666 root=/dev/ram0 rw nopcmcia vga=791 splash=silent keyb=us lang=en_US.utf8 noauto autologin
initrd /xfce_salix/initrd.gz''
This works for XFCE test LiveCD but not for Beta2.
Thank you for your efforts.

Just a sidenote: it's not a good idea to use a journaling filesystem on flash drives. Journaling makes them wear off a lot faster than they would. You'd be better off by sticking with ext2.

You are right. But I removed the 'journaling' :
Code: Select all
mke2fs -t ext4 -O ^has_journal /dev/sdc1

This was just for testing ikke specific problem.
To clarify: the above link is for the LXDE version even though the title of this thread is for Xfce and the problem raised by Ike could be relevant to both versions.
Anyways, we are very close to release final on both editions.
