keyboard woes [solved]

Hi,

I decided to put salix on my old laptop this weekend and ran into problems with the keyboard. In short, although choosing the standard US qwerty keyboard, the keyboard was not a US keyboard when it came time to enter a username. I tried both accepting the default keyboard in the install, and choosing a qwerty US keyboard - even testing it at that point to confirm it was correct. Still, when it came time to enter a username, the keyboard was not correct. To me this is post-install - as if the keyboard was US-qwerty during installation but not US-qwerty after installation. I don't remember any problems typing anything such as mount points.

Is this a known problem? Should I install and then change the keyboard later? For what its worth, I tried typing "g0l" on my "US keyboard" and instead the character were "g/3".

The download was this version (downloaded Nov 28, 2010):
Salix Xfce 13.1.2 CD ISO

May be you 'accidentally' enable numlock during your installation on your laptop?
if that is the case, just find your numlock key, and toggle it ( which means disable it ) and you should be OK
