Sorry but I find startup sounds annoying.

I agree with you, pwatk. The first thing I used to do with Ubuntu was turn that particular feature off, back in the day - though it took me a while to work out how. In Windows I don't think you even can.

However, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have it as an option, though I would say definitely opt in rather than opt out if anyone decides to do it. I'm reminded of a discussion a while ago about splash - here, I would tend to view it as something superfluous and really a bit blingy. But maybe Salix could manage to do it - better?
