X server error with Salix64 LXDE

Greetings,

I've recently acquired a HP Pavilion dv6700 Intel dual core 64 bit laptop, my first 64 bit machine. So, I've been doing the "distro-hop" the last few days. I've used Salix on a few of my 32 bit machines and would like to give Salix a fair shot at my latest acquisition.

However, upon rebooting after the install of Salix64 LXDE on this machine I get a "failed to start X server" error and the machine drops to CLI. I did md5sum on the download and verified the CD burns with everything OK, so the problem lies (lays?) elsewhere.

I'm curious if anyone else has had a problem with installing Salix64 LXDE. I did install Salix64 Fluxbox on the same machine with no problems and have gone back to that for the time being. I do prefer LXDE and would like to see it work here, too. Unfortunately, my Linux "chops" are not quite sufficient to add LXDE to a Fluxbox install with complete success (I did manage to get LXDE working with a Fluxbox install, but not well enough to satisify me).

This is weird. It works fine here. And if the fluxbox edition works, then the lxde edition should work too, xorg is exactly the same in both. Did everything go well during installation? Were there any problems reported? What is your graphics card? Have you tried the 32bit lxde edition?

In any case, you should be able to install lxde on top of the fluxbox edition with no problems. What were the parts that did not satisfy you after you did that? To get the look and feel of the lxde edition, you could install the user-settings-lxde package and then create a new user (or delete and recreate your current user).

I also had similar problems in hp dv9000 while trying to upgrade from the first release of SalixOS as soon it splitted from Zenwalk to 13.1.2 (following the guide in the wiki). The xserver refuses to work no matter whatever I tweak. Finally, I reinstalled 13.1.2 without formating my /home partition. This is just a confirmation what Zhymm reported.
