Which Repositories?

Post by sqlpython »

Really enjoying using my KDE install of Salix..... Nice work, I hope that you keep the Repositories as is (Essential and Effectively Complete) and not Bloated (as some other Distros tend to be...... ;) )

However, I have one question that I can't find an answer to in FAQ nor a Forum search..that is
Are there any advantages or Disadvantages to an English speaking User deciding to use either the UK or the France based repositories?

It's just the server location. No other differences ;)

Thanks for the Reply.. :)
I assumed that they were Mirrors but I have gotten into trouble by assuming ...

It would probably be a help to have a Mirror on this side of the pond. Two reasons
1. Updates would be Speedier on this side of the Atlantic
2. Would help with hits congestion on the Euro servers.

Have any US or Canadian Universities shown an interest in allowing Salix Server space?

At one point Oregon State University did have a mirror, but it does not appear to be active anymore. Also there's my private mirror, which is right in your back yard but with my upload rate that I get from Comcast it may not be any faster than the France or UK mirrors.
BTW, where in CT? I'm in Ellington

No promises on results but I will make some inquiries.
I am sure that there must be perquisites that must be met as well as University Security requirements.
....We have to consider and remember that while the halls of the birth for BSD most Universities are Microsoft run.
