LibreOffice Writer crashes with large file

I'm working with a huge Word file with lots of tables and formatting. Writer froze while "exporting" the file - can't remember if I had clicked save, or if it was the tiresome automatic background save thingy.

I'm going to try working with the file in native .odt and then exporting it to Word.xp for delivery to the client when I've finished. In the past I have generally stuck with the proprietary format throughout, imagining this was less likely to mess up tables, formatting, etc.

Be it noted, however, that automatic recuperation got me back everything, so I didn't lose any work.
