Xfce Start Menu

I have been searching for ways to modify the Xfce Start menu.
The menu options use the app name, which provides little or no clue to the app's purpose. Except to those people who already know, names such as Transmission, Brasero, Catfish, Exaile, etc. provide no immediate help about purpose. I prefer a menu that lists the description and the app name in parentheses much like KDE3 supported.
As such information is contained in *.desktop xml files, I presume then that Xfce does not support descriptions or configuring for that layout simply escapes me.
I recall testing LXDE several months ago and LXDE also did not support descriptions, although perhaps that has changed since then.
Perhaps the problem is the *.desktop files lack Description entries. I'm still trying to learn how this all works.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
