[solved] missing panel

I installed Salix 13.32 on a new laptop last night, no problems. This morning however, my bottom panel is missing. I tried the panel option from the settings menu but nothing happens. I'm sure there is a simple solution to this but I haven't found it yet.

I also tried a "missing panel" search but didn't get any matches.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try <Alt>+F2 and type this command: xfce4-panel

Then just to be sure, log out and back in. If your panel is still there, uncheck the register session box in Xfce exit dialog.

That sometimes happens if your system is very low on RAM and it all gets used up. For some reason the xfce panel is the first to go in cases like that. Try the command Akuna posted. If it comes back but then it goes again when you login/logout, make sure you have it running and check the "Save session" box when logging out.

Thanks Gentlemen!

In my particular case both steps were required.
1) Try <Alt>+F2 and type this command: xfce4-panel
2) Check the "Save session" box when logging out.
All is well again and again thanks :D

Now that it is saved and the panel is back when you log in, you may now want to 'uncheck' the save session box so that it doesn't 'save' the missing panel next time it disappear.
