kernel panic at power down

I'm on Xfce 13.37.

This morning I upgraded to Vbox 4.1.0 which mya or may not be related to my machine now not powering down when I shutdown.

The message after Power Down begins with:

Code: Select all

Kernel Panic - not syncing Fatal exception in interrupt
PID: 0, comm: kworker/ 0:0 Tainted: P 2.6.37.6-smp #2
and is followed by some more which I didn't write down.

I would appreciated any suggestions/pointers on how to trouble shoot this. My first thought was to unistall Vbox 4.1.0 and go back to 4.0.10 which I installed on my netbook without trouble last week but I'm wondering if it may be something else. A quick google shows me that kworker has been problematic but I haven't found any problems I can relate to my current situation.

I just did the exact same install of Vbox 4.1.0 and the corresponding extension pack on a vanilla install of slack 13.37 on another partition in the same box.

Slack shutdown/powered down OK before the install but after the install I get the same kernel panic and no power down as with Salix.

Looks like this is might be a new release of Vbox problem. Serves me right for being an early adopter. Time to jump back to version 4.0.10.

Just in follow up, I removed the extension pack for Vbox 4.1.0, uninstalled 4.1.0 and then installed the previous version, 4.0.10 with extension pack.

There is no kernel panic at shutdown and the box turns off

So post a bug report to the vbox devs ;)
