I've been trying all day to do a fresh install of Salix 13.37 from the image avaiable at sourceforge.net and a few key packages seem to be corrupt.
I've burned new CDR's and the result was always the same - there's always an error on the attempt to install the following packages:
gcc
ispell
perl
dejavu-fonts-ttf
font-misc-misc
gnome-icon-theme
gtk2+
vte
xfce
ghostscript
gvfs
jre
libreoffice
kernel-modules-smp <-- this makes it impossible for me to use slapt-get to install the corrupted packages from a network mirror, since without it my ethernet interface isn't available.
How can I do a HTTP/FTP installation?
Installation problems
Re: Installation problems
have you tried to download the iso from another location? (presumably you checked the md5sum of the iso before burning). failing that try also the torrent.
i cannot imagine that those packages are corrupt at the source as I have installed 13.37 several times on various machines without a problem.

Re: Installation problems
Yes I've checked the md5sum, and it matched the one announced in the Salix downloads section.tsuren wrote:have you tried to download the iso from another location? (presumably you checked the md5sum of the iso before burning). failing that try also the torrent.

Re: Installation problems
Then a bad burn? Did you try a Vbox install straight from the image?

What really matters is where you are going, not where you come from.
Re: Installation problems

Re: Installation problems
When this sort of thing has happened to me, it's always turned out to be a bad burn.
I keep meaning to teach myself how to bypass the burning part altogether by using a USB stick. Thenktor posted about this a while back:

but I can't find where because all the search terms I can think of are too common. But basically, the point I remember him making is that after installation, those disks my be useful as beermats, but that's about it.
And the process can be rather unreliable.

Does the procedement described here wipes off your USB drive?mimosa wrote:When this sort of thing has happened to me, it's always turned out to be a bad burn.

Re: Installation problems
Ah, thank you, next time I know where to look for the instructions!
I'm not sure if it wipes the stick, but I 'd back up any data first in the expectation that it probably does. I used to have an old 1GB stick that would have been perfect to keep just for this purpose, but I gave it to a friend with Salix Live on.

Re: Installation problems
It is extremely rare, but it is possible to have an md5sum that matches but still have a broken download. But your problem is probably either a bad burn, or a faulty CD-ROM drive.
