So figured I should say Hi to all.
New to Salix. Been using Debian for around 3 years now and decided I needed something new to try. Still run Debian on my desktop, but have been playing with Salix on my netbook, getting to know the ins and the outs...what packages I use on my Debian install and seeing if Salix has them in the repos...that sort of thing.
So far so good. Found a few packages that I used in Debian not in Salix, but I'm working my way around them, checking out the forum to see if someone else has requested them and such.
Right now I am testing out the Openbox beta/rc that I got off of the link from the mailing list. Going to check out Fluxbox as well. Long time Xfce and KDE user, but I still have a spot in my heart for WM's.
Hope to have some fun here.

Hi kinslayer and welcome to Salix.
If some of the application you seek are unavailable with slapt-get/gslapt, you can try
slapt-src/sourcery instead. It will build the package from source from you. It has a small learning curve but if you read the wiki and search the forum about it, you'll quickly figure it out.

Hi kinslayer,
have fun with Salix

BTW: I did not work on the Openbox beta ISOs since I've posted them to the mailing list for two reasons:
1. lack of time
2. not much feedback at all
But still nice to hear some people are trying it. I probably will improve them and perhaps there will be a final release some day, but I cannot promise. There are already some thing on my ToDo list for that ISOs.
PS: Are you a Nightwish fan?

Thenktor, the Openbox beta passed me by. Could you please also put it on the forum, if it isn't already?
It would also give me a chance to try out ecologically friendly installation methods

Thanks for the info Akuna. I'll read up on that and perhaps give it a shot later on today.

thenktor, if you are looking for feedback still, I can provide some. I may not be a very big "power user" compared to some, but I do know my way around Openbox pretty well so I know what to look for.
And no, I can't say I have heard of Nightwish.
