[SOLVED] Sane not detecting scanner

I'm having issues with an HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m I plugged in one of the machines of my small network. 'sane-find-scanner' doesn't detect the scanner and Simple Scan also complains that no scanners are available. Printing works fine, though.

Suggestions?

Is the scanner at least found by its own host ? Sharing it over a network is another issue.

No, it isn't.

Is the scanner listed by "lsusb"? Please post the output. Did the scanner work with other distributions? I guess it's not supported by sane.

Yes, the scanner is listed by "lsusb", and is recognized by "scanimage -L"... only as root. It is a HP Photosmart 209a. "sane-find-scanner" returns nothing even as root.

I never use "sane-find-scanner" command but if scanimage only works as root maybe you should put your user in "scanner" and/or "lp" groups. It works perfectly for me.

I put my user in the "lp" group and scanimage -L detects the scanner as a regular user. Thanks a bunch!
