disk burning software for Windows

I'm working on creating a clean, functional Windows XP installation, using dd to back up the partition so I can revert to a sound version whenever it starts to go bad. That way, the users (the rest of my family) can use it as they please in the mean time:

One doubt I have is which CD burner to choose. My daughter likes Nero, but I'd rather have something lighter and simpler as the default.

The app needs to have the normal range of functions (data, music, iso etc) as found for instance in Brasero, and be reliable and simple to use.

I imagine the most common tasks must be:

- making a playable CD using mp3 files from the hard disk
- backing up her photo collection
- 1-1 disk copies

My research suggests InfraRecorder may be a good choice. It's open source, and sounds as though it has all the features one might want.

Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts?

An alternative would be http://cdburnerxp.se/ but I'd rather use Infrarecorder because it's open source ;)

Thanks Thenktor. That app does look as though it may be more fully featured than infrarecorder, but as you say, it's not open source.

TPFC: CD/DVD - Burners (14) - All portable (running from USB stick) and all are for Windows.

Seven (7) of the currently listed applications weight less than 1MB.
Three (3) are Open Source software.

I'm using InfraRecorder as well. Funnly enough, it is the least popular application in its category.
InfraRecorder is recommended by Canonical/Ubuntu, by the way.

Thanks Zachary.

I give more weight to your recommendation and Thenktor's than to that of Canonical

I had some problems of corrupted DVDs (data) with CDBurnerXP, and some problems with ImgBurn when creating audio CDs from mp3 files, not all the files were recognised and converted. I now use ImgBurn, which is somewhat more confused and not so immediate to use for people who like Nero and its "simplicity" but it's more robust and stable.
