Hi friends,

I was trying test Salix OS on my netbook, a Acer Aspire One D250 Kav 60, 1Gb ram, 1,66 Ghz, but I can't...

In both, Lxde and Fluxbox the cd stop at the same point:

triggering udev events: /sbin/udevadm trigger --action=add

I wait for minuts but nothing.

My only Os in my netbook is PCLinuxOS LXDE.

Wich is the problem?

An other question, please. I'm happy with PCLinuxOs but what do you think, Salix OS LXDE or fluxbox can improve my netbook performance (speed and stability) or will be very similar?

You can try passing the noudev parameter to the kernel. That should get you through the installation process. It doesn't, of course, explain what particular piece of code is hanging. At the initial screen enter:
Does your system have a Broadcom wireless chipset? Some Broadcom chips will cause udev to hang. If so, which chipset is it? It is likely you'll get the same behavior at first boot after installation and if we can figure out which driver to blacklist we can fix this once and for all

Yes, I have a Broadcom wireless chipset. Is the BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY.

I had a lot of problems with many distros because this chipset...

My netbook has too a Intel Atom i686 processor.

I have the same Broadcom chipset in my netbook. What you describe was a known problem in 13.1.x but not in 13.37. The upgraded b43 driver in the newer kernel took care of that. Since you're using a Salix Live LXDE edition you are trying to install 13.1.2, which is outdated.

If you are running live only basically you can make it work by passing noudev to the kernel but you will still have no wireless after boot. If you want to install to your netbook my advice would be to forget the live version and install SalixOS 13.37. That will install with no problems. You will not have wireless after installation but can enable it the way I described at http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20110919 Skip down to the part of the review on installation and configuration and the instructions are towards the bottom of that section. If they are not clear enough and you need it laid out step-by-step let me know and I'll be happy to do that for you.

The other alternative would be to use the SalixOS Live 13.37 Xfce beta.

Yes, if someone wants to stick with 13.1.2 that article will help. However, since we are talking about installing to a netbook I don't see the advantage of live media. Remember, that netbook has no internal CD-ROM drive.

You can run the live version from an USB stick But I'm no friend of live stuff anyway. Go for the full install

PS: I don't know PCLinuxOs, but I doubt there will be great performance differences (as long as you are using the same desktop environment/apps).
