[SOLVED] Sudden wlan0/Wicd connection problems

I have two ways of connecting. The first way is my ppp connection. It isn't always the fastest and I use it as a backup. The primary method is wlan0 via Wicd, which I use to connect to an unsecure network in my neighborhood OR to my wife's mobile hotspot. After a series of Salix updates (nothing else has changed on my system but these updates) I find that (A) my attempts to connect to the local unsecure network fail -- "can't obtain an IP address", and (B) while I can connect to wife's mobile hotspot at 96-100%, it drops after a few minutes.

I rule out my modem -- it is a new external modem which works fine. I rule out the idea that both otherwise reliable networks are suddenly unavailable. I am left to conclude it is my system, which makes me think that perhaps some config file was changed during one of those recent massive updates.

Help please?

Thanks.

With all due respect,

this is insanely frustrating so a response would be appreciated. Thanks.

1) What are the Salix updates. What is the version of salix you use.
2) As root delete the files under /var/lib/wicd/configurations/
They are files for example 001f9fcf5023 or 0024f36c84ed
Do a /etc/rc.d/rc.wicd restart
Then clik on wicd icon and write again the key if wireless network is encrypted and try to connect.

Thank you djemos.

1) The version is 13.1 -- the updates were dbus and a bunch of others. I guess it isn't relevant now because....
2) ....I followed your suggestions and they worked.

I very much appreciate the help and hope my thread-bump wasn't rude or demanding. This is an excellent OS with awesome devs and a great community, and when you finally have a way for us to donate to the Salix maintenance fund I intend to.
