"XSane" instead of "Simple Scan"

The program "Simple Scan" is so simple, that it is not even pre-scanning and scanning of the selected area. I propose to change it to a full-featured "XSane" for official iso image of the Salix OS Xfce.
In addition, the "XSane" can be used as a plug-in to "GIMP":
Code: Select all
ln -s /usr/bin/xsane /home/<user_name>/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins/
Select "Create" from the "File" menu of GIMP.

Not going to happen. XSane's interface is horrible. If you want it you can install it, but simple-scan is a better choice as a default.

I fully agree. Despite the minor problems and the limited features simple-scan is highly intuitive. Simple-Scan does pretty much everything I (and probably other users which don't heavily use scanners) need and if I need to adjust the image I can still do that with gimp.
If somebody needs or prefers XSane they can install it from the repository, but it's imho completely unsuitable for general use (by non-xsane-experts).

I actually prefer Xsane as well, and finds simple scan not very intuitive. But that could be quite subjective & simply a matter of habit.
I don't mind what is set as default, I (like most folks) usually have a set of preferred application which I usually fetch with Gslapt after a new
install.

I propose to arrange a vote, as
here.

I think you'll find very little support for xsane as a default.

I also like simple scan a lot and prefer it over xsane
