libreoffice and jre

Is "java runtime environment" a dep of libreoffice? I just installed the latter in Ratpoison (I know ...) and when I opened my first file (.docx, for .doc I use antiword), received repeated messages about the absence of jre. However, when the file eventually opened, it was possible to read it perfectly well.

Interestingly, much the same thing happened in Windows when I installed it there.

I'm now installing JRE (whatever exactly it is) in Ratpoison.

The JRE is required only for the database LibreOffice Base.

Thanks Andyun. :)

Do you happen to know how to turn off those messages without installing JRE? I only ever use Writer, Calc and possibly the ppt app, whose name I forget.

I opened the file from the console:

Code: Select all

libreoffice foo.docx
so you'd think it'd know Writer was wanted in this case :?

A messages about a missing JRE only appear when you first start the program.
