[Solved] Website Login Quirks

Wen logging in to this forum, my password gets rejected about 1/3 of the time, although I type it carefully.

Also it seems unpredictable how often the login prompt is presented: sometimes I stay logged in for only minutes, sometimes many hours.

Using the latest Firefox under Fluxbox 13.37, and keeping up with all available updates. I keep anywhere from 4 to 10 tabs open, and close the forum tab after each use.

Is anyone else noticing issues such as these?

Am using the MultiFox extension which could be related to the problems... OTOH I regularly use several other phpBB boards, and SalixOS is the only one experiencing any quirks.

In any case I am looking for another browser which is lighter on resources. Do you know of any which are compatible with the NoScript extension? SeaMonkey is a possibility though I'd rather find something smaller, along the lines of Midori. NoScript is a must-have, though.

At the moment I'm using Chrome most of the time. Is it lightweight? Not really. Is it fas? Yes it is The probably some NoScript extension available, too. But first you might want to try without the MultiFox extension (which I don't know).

Chrome is used under Windows in this house, and it seems to occupy an enormous amount of space under "Configuration & Settings" or whatever it is - *per user* too, and each member of the family is a separate user. I imagine its behaviour under Linux is more transparent, but still, it must put all that stuff somewhere

My family like it because of its speed, while still having all sorts of features. We tried KMeleon for a while, but it was too minimalist.

So far, this appears to be a MultiFox issue, because:

1. With a fair number of thread views, I'm the only one reporting the problem

2. Login failures have yet to recur since I started testing a work-around

MultiFox provides multiple profiles in the same Firefox session. The extension has been an essential part of my workflow for a couple of years. That will likely continue until I find a truly lightweight browser which is compatible with NoScript.

Over a year ago, a developer had to suspend work on his "NotScripts" extension for Chrome, until a pending feature request is implemented in Chromium.

Meanwhile it seems more important to work around my login problems than to troubleshoot, particularly because the quirks are intermittent. If results continue to be positive after a couple of weeks, I'll post the method here, and mark the thread [Solved].

Until then, if anyone learns of a light, NoScript-compatible browser, I'd be really interested.

Marking this as [Solved] as I've confirmed that it's a MultiFox quirk. While it occurred more often here on the SalixOS Forum, I finally had it happen on another phpBB forum as well.

Work-around is to Remove the specific MultiFox account / username whenever the forum's Login page appears. That avoids getting the "Invalid Username / Password" error; also the period of time I stay logged in seems longer and more consistent.

In addition, at one point during testing I also used the "Delete all board cookies" link which appears at the bottom of every Forum page. It's unclear whether that made any difference; I assume not, because most Forum settings appear to be saved on the server.

In any case, thanks for the previous replies. MultiFox seems well worth the minor quirks because (in the beta version) it provides a separate Firefox profile in every browser tab.
