a couple of simple questions

Been looking through the FAQ and wiki and i still need a few answers, i think.
I am used to Zenwalk for many years but now i need to connect to internet using HSxPA, Zenwalk has absolutely no support for that, you need to download a few packages to make it work. Is salixos set up for this from scratch?

No. I don't know how to set it up in Zenwalk, but I guess it's pretty much the same in Salix.

i wrote a little howto in the zenwalk forum, that's one way of doing it (connects automatically on bootup using pppd) it is not easy in any way.

you basically need usb-modeswitch, tcl, usblib, maybe wvdial and pppd for it to work, at least with a basic UMTS dongle. If Salixos had all these packages from the beginning, i would say it puts you ahead of Zen in this respect.

having "Network Manager" installed, compiled to use umts/gprs dongles makes it all even more appealing. does salix have that? (Please do not say wicd :x )

This is true for WLANs, but I hope they add 3G/4G support soon.

Is this really the only feature request about 3G on their bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wicd/+bug/815684 :?:

I have absolutely no experience in connecting in ppp or 3G under Linux. But how will it be difficult to help proposing a patch to wicd ?
Could it be a new Salix project ? (I mean providing a patch to wicd for them to include in the next version).

I don't know about adding 3G support in wicd, but I tried Sakis3G lately and it worked perfectly. It's just one file, you download the tarball, extract the executable, put it anywhere in you path and run it. And it just works, no configuration needed at all. In the past I had used umtsmon for that, but it depends on the now obsolete qt3, so Sakis3G was easier.

Nice, thanks for the info.
