You can install tetex :
But if you want a more powerfull LaTeX distribution, TeXLive 2009 is out and you can install it :
http://www.tug.org/texlive/acquire-iso.html
Just note everything you are doing, it can be a very usefull wiki article

Are you sure tetex install LaTeX? I read the description of this package and it seems to me that tetex just install TeX. I'm learning LaTeX and I don't know if TeX has the same potential.
I think I'll try to install TeXLive 2009. I don't really need it but I agree it can be an usefull article.

the better option is to install tex live.
rsamurti wrote how to install tex live on the ZW wiki (
here). You can use the same procedure there to install it on salix.
